Pisa is the nearest airport to the Garfagnana area of Tuscany. Most of the accommodation is around a 1 hour 30 min drive from the airport.

There are flights with Ryanair from Glasgow Prestwick, Edinburgh and London. Edinburgh to Pisa with Jet2 and London Stanstead to Pisa on a variety of airlines. Easyjet connects from Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh to Stanstead. Other cheap options include flights to Genoa (3hrs drive), Milan Bergamo (4 hrs drive), Bologna (3 hrs drive). There are a number of English airports who also provide direct flights to Pisa including Newcastle, Leeds/Bradford, Liverpool, Manchester, Bournemouth and of course London Stanstead and Gatwick.

Car hire and train travel

This is the latest information on car hire options that we have recently researched. We have been in contact with several clearing agencies to determine the best deals possible for our customers. Autoeurope have very competitive rates without the add-ons other companies have. Uniquely they operate a Excess Refund or Zero Excess option on many of their rentals, which in our experience is well worth taking. Discounted hires are available if you click on the link.

Taxis / trains

Pisa to the Garfagnana Region by train
Some people like to travel by train from Pisa Airport to the Garfagnana area. Train Italia has timetables from Pisa via Lucca to Castelnuovo di Garfagnana and other local stations close to your accommodation. It takes around 1 hour 30 minutes from the airport station which is conveniently right outside the airport terminal building. Tickets can be bought at the airport or in other train stations. Train travel is very easy, cheap and efficient as well as a relaxing way to see the scenery.

Taxi travel
We can recommend and English speaking taxi driver who does airport transfers (Pisa airport to the Garfaganan Region) for up to 8 people in a minibus taxi (costs 120 euros). He also does day trips and excursions as well as a local service to restuarants, train station etc.

Electric Mountain Bikes can be hired locally and are a fun and convenient way to get around.
