If you are looking for quietness, privacy, nature, and a beautiful house with an eating area overlooking the valley and the mountains, a garden with apple-, pear-, fig- and walnut trees and a gorgeous swimmingpool from which you look over the valley too, than this is the place to be! It is only 30 km to Lucca, one hour to Pisa and 1 hour to Viareggio to go to the beach. The checking in was done by Mony, she speaks very good English, and she kept in contact with us during our stay. Whatever questions we had she answered our whatsapp within minutes! A lovely and kind woman to communicate with! No disco's, you do not hear cars driving around, only those from the villagers, no screaming children. A really very nice house. The owners have done a very good job!!

We, 6 people, spent 14 days in this beautiful house. Everything was very clean. We enjoyed the huge garden and the particularly large pool where we liked to hang out. The terrace for 6 people, where we could enjoy breakfast and dinner with this great view, was also special. Thank you for everything Moni, who looked after us on site. Many thanks to Bar Robur for the delicious food. 4 stars only because of the young people on the sports field nearby on some days. A suggestion at the end: A refrigerator for cold drinks near the pool would have something

We stayed in the house for 10 days in the summer of 2020. The house is located in the Garfagnana mountain area, just outside the small town of Cardoso. The house is renovated by the family over the years with a lot of love and care. Although the interior and design was not specifically to our taste, this was not disturbing. The house has a nice balcony/terrace next to the kitchen where you can sit and eat with an amazing view. It could be a bit dark inside the house, as it was an old house and there were not too many windows. However, we spend most our time outside, so this did not matter too much. Upstairs there are three bedrooms and a second bathroom. The master bedroom is very spacious. The floor upstairs is made of wooden floorboards which can be a bit noisy when walking over them (particularly at night). The garden is large with many fruit trees and a nice pool. A two minute walk away was a soccer pitch where our kids had lots of fun! Please note that the garden has sun all day, but does not have any sun after 17:30 or so, as it faces north-east. The town can be reached by a small footpath next to the house in five minutes. There is a restaurant with a nice terrace and a small bar with some basic groceries (eg bread). The town of Cardoso is small but beautiful, with smalls streets and stairs: as if you walk through the Middle Ages. We also did a hike from the town further up the mountain which was beautiful. Another recommendation is the town of Barga: a 20 min drive away. Communication was always quick and when we needed help with something, someone from the town would be there quickly to help us with practicalities. One last tip: when you arrive do NOT take the road through the town. Based on the map we thought this was the way to the house, but we got stuck. The actual way to the house passes the cementary and is reached via a small exit before you reach the town.
Beautiful property in a lovely area.

Perfect! Lovely renovated house in an idyllic setting. Super pool and gardens and amazing views from the sun terrace. Walking distance to the local village which has a friendly bar with great pizza and pasta. Lots to see and do within easy driving distance- Lucca, Pisa, Grotto del Vento, Barga, hillwalking and national parks. Lovely unspoiled forest containing charming little mountain villages. Owners left wine, bread, cheese and local meats which were greatly appreciated.

We had a great stay in Cardoso, the house is lovely, the gardens are stunning and the pool is like something from a postcard, overlooking the Tuscan mountains, plus theres a beautiful terrace off the kitchen. The kitchen itself is well equipped, and there is a hair dryer, iron & board, TV/ DVD player, washing machine - so all the amenities you could need are covered. Check in was straightforward and the hosts were friendly, even letting us check in an hour early. Lastly the location is stunning, the views are amazing, plus you can easily walk to the local bar/ restaurant, or drive into Barga in 15 mins. I would highly recommend a stay here, its idyllic.

We really enjoyed our stay at La Capanna. The property is spacious with a fantastic pool and a lovely terrace. The area is very nice, although you will need a car as the house is quite remote and taxis are incredibly expensive.

The property was like a dream - a beautifully restored farmhouse in a beautiful location with modern amenities. The Tuscan dream! We loved the pool and, for me, I enjoyed the well equipped kitchen to cook up great food from local produce. The local services and supermarket in Gallicano were all we needed for our stay, including a local vet. The proximity to Lucca, Barga, Castelnouvo G. etc means you are never short of options for trips. The Mara Meo pizzeria etc on the main road is exceptional quality and value as well as dog-friendly. Cardoso itself is beautiful but sleepy with a couple of bars and the one in the middle of the village offers bread and basic provisions - be prepared to travel to the excellent Conad supermarket in Gallicano for most supplies. We loved it. We would love to go back soon! X

We spent two very relaxing weeks in La Capanna. The house is lovely, spacious & very clean and has all the amenities. The pool was big enough for all of us five to romp in. No direct neighbours, but the village is only a short walk away. The fitness "hut" was also a hit with everyone :) The garden is beautiful and lovingly cared for and we could pick all the fruit we wanted from the orchard. Beyond that, Mara and her family were very, very nice and our two large dogs were welcome, too. So, perfect holiday!

Vielen Dank, I. Schubert

A lovely location, about a 10 minute winding drive up a hillside, with sweeping views across the valley to the hills and mountains the other side. The house is a typical converted Italian farm house, simply furnished but with everything that we needed. We all loved the sweeping views from the small patio outside the kitchen and from the good sized pool and sun bathing patio. One evening an electric storm over the mountains the other side of the valley provided some wonderful scenes while we sat back and enjoyed cards and wine in the warm evening air. While you can get bread and some basic items from the two bars in the village we found it easier to use the many different shops that are 10 to 20 minutes drive from the house and in particular a supermarket about 20 minutes drive along the main road. There are many lovely locations, villages and restaurants that we visited over the 10 days that we stayed. A five hour round trip into the hills behind the house took us up through some glorious and quite isolated countryside. Crossing to the other side of the valley there are numerous restaurants and villages well worth visiting such as Barga. We travelled by train to Lucca and thoroughly enjoyed our visit there, although the drive is really just as simple. Unusually for a rented house we found that there was no 'book of words'. This would be very helpful in a number of ways. Examples of what might be included are: - Instructions on how to work items such as the coffee machine, washing machine, dishwasher and tv - Instructions of where to find the main fuse box (outside the house in a locked cabinet) in case the main fuse trips (which it did while we were there) - Location of nearest chemist and/or doctor - An in-house reminder of check-out time A beautiful part of Italy and a house that provides both a lovely location for relaxing in the sun as well as for exploring the countryside, towns and villages that can be easily accessed from it.

It was a wonderful, tranquil place to get away from it all. The written description and photos were accurate but the place was even better than the photos! The setting was perfect with lovely views of the mountains. The property was well kept, very well equipped, spacious and comfortable. The garden was very pretty with lots of areas to sit, eat out and relax. The pool was clean and beautiful and had the added bonus of inflatables etc for the children. Good quality loungers and sunshades. The gym was a luxurious bonus. It was great to be able to walk into the very pretty medieval village (three mins) and have a drink at one of the two bars, You can also get ice-creams, basic provisions, bread and lunchtime snacks. The other bar also serves delicious pizzas. What more could you need? Although quite a long, winding drive up from the valley, the property was well situated to reach the main road, with supermarkets and restaurants no more than a 15 minute drive away. Lucca is very easily reached (35 mins), perfect to visit in the late afternoon/evening. There is a lot to see and do in the area, we wished we had had more time to explore further into the moutains. Barga is well worth a visit across the other side of the valley. Florence is a good day-trip out, we took the train from Lucca (1.5 hrs) as it seemed easier, and no problem with parking. It was very helpful being able to speak to the English-speaking friend of the owner who was on hand if we had any issues. We would thoroughly recommend this property for a family of four or six, probably with childen over the age of 6 as there is a high up out-door terrace off the kitchen, and the stairs are not suitable for toddlers. The pool, however, is fenced with a lockable gate. Can't wait to return there one day.
The pool is lovely with gorgeous views. Owners/ agent tried hard to be helpful.

The kitchen could be better equipped for six people as only 6 dinner plates that fit in dishwasher. Delicious tap water and yummy fruit in garden. Many thanks for our holiday.
