Beautiful three bedroomed castle villa with pool and wi-fi

La Rocca is a unique merchants villa built within the ramparts of an ancient castle of the medieval town of Coreglia.

This is a wonderful opportunity to experience life within the walls of an ancient castle villa, with beautiful gardens, pool, summer house kitchen, childrens play area, rose covered pergola walkway and turret room. The villa is filled with antiques and art works and enjoys excellent views over the village rooftops to the mountains beyond. The large and well kept garden has several peaceful areas for dining, sunbathing, relaxing and playing, all within the perimeter wall of the old castello.

The rooms are comfortably furnished with antiques and reminders of past times, giving the villa an interesting and unique atmosphere. The decoration and furnishings are tasteful and understated.

There is an 8 x 3 metre ‘fun’ pool in the garden, good for playing or cooling off.

There are 3 bedrooms in the house, 2 doubles and 1 twin.

The ancient walled town of Coreglia is within walking distance and because it is difficult for vehicles to access the narrow cobbled streets, it is very peaceful to explore by foot, stopping for ice cream or coffee on the way. During summer months there are festivals within the Old Town, including an excellent medieval festival in July.
There are 3 restaurants and 2 cafes in the town.
The medieval town of Barga, with its jazz and opera festivals is a few kilometres away and can be seen from the village.
Free Wi-Fi connection is available in the house.

La Rocca is a stunning, beautiful place full of eccentric charm and we loved our time there. The house and garden are full of interesting nooks and crannies to discover, and interesting antiques. We loved making a fire in the pizza oven and baking pizzas in the lovely garden room. We thought that if anything the house is over stocked with stuff and it took us a while to find everything. It would be good to know more about what is there and where to find it. For example there is an extensive first aid kit but you wouldn't necessarily find it if you needed it. There is enough crockery in the house to host a banquet! We felt, like another reviewer, that the copious amount of plastic furniture in the garden spoilt the way it looks a bit and questioned whether a house that sleeps six needed seating for around 38! However we found this amusing rather than annoying. We thought the description and instructions could have been a bit clearer eg what to do with the rubbish. The village is interesting. A lovely place to wander around. There is a good walk along the river which is described in the visitors book. There is very little in the way of facilities in the village. We couldn't find bread or fresh vegetables so it is important to arrive well stocked. It is quite a long drive back down the winding road to the nearest supermarket. Nearby Barga is a beautiful little town to visit and the drive through mountain roads to get there is stunning. Lucca is breathtaking and a highlight of our holiday. We would definitely return to La Rocca.

Jederzeit wieder! "One "perches" on the top of the mountain on which Coreglia Anteminelli lies. The garden is wonderful: figs, grapes, tables, chairs sunbathing, barbecue and unobstructed view. The house itself is very nice, generous and unusually tastefully decorated. A house to feel good. Any time!"

"It is much nicer than in the photos. Outstanding is: the location, the garden, the village, the surroundings, the restaurants, the weather and the nice people. You can make many great excursions and walks everything for the daily needs shopping"

A lovely spacious property, with a large, well-tended garden and plenty of tables, chairs and loungers for outdoor living. The house too was well equipped - except for the lack of a working coffee pot - we counted four in the kitchen but none functional so we bought one. But that aside this was a wonderfully tranquil place to spend a week. The views from the garden towards the mountains and down to the village are beautiful, the swimming pool was very welcome at the end of a hot day visiting Lucca and Barga and our contact person Nora was helpful and friendly. Reaching Coreglia in the dark on our first night was a bit of a challenge - it is at the top of a hill and at the end of a winding road. The house itself is at the very top of the village and is reached by a steep and narrow driveway, providing excellent opportunities to practice hill starts and three-point turns.

Best holiday we have had so far. The Tuscan scenery is beautiful.

Everything lived up to expectations. Fabulous property and exceptional gardens. Visits to Florence, Lucca and Pisa in easy reach and certainly worth a visit although the church, museum and restaurants in Coreglia itself are great. Would love to visit again. The "distressed" look in the villa itself is not to my taste but otherwise a truly idealistic place to stay.

We loved our stay at La Rocca - a very historic building in a lovely village. It was a great base for exploring the local area and we particularly enjoyed our trip to Lucca. The garden is breathtaking with cherries, figs and roses. The views from every window are fantastic - a great place to stay if you want to experience Tuscany at its best.

We had a wonderful two weeks in La Rocca, and honestly, felt privileged to be there. The hilltop location of the villa means that it has spectacular views of the village and surrounding countryside in all directions. There are so many places in the gorgeous (and undeniably expansive!) gardens to sit and just try to take it all in. We loved it. The antique furniture, objects and artwork in the house made it a lovely place to be and the pool was a welcome addition on hot days. I particularly loved the summer-house kitchen with authentic pizza-oven. Everything was well looked after and maintained and Nora, the house manager was fantastic, helping us out with everything from we needed to know. We used public transport to get around and, while the trains were great, found the local bus service was a little limited. We would definitely hire a car if we were returning (and we would love to go back to La Rocca) so that we could see even more of this beautiful part of Tuscany. That said, even without a car, it was a fantastic two weeks, chilling out, enjoying everything Coreglia had to offer (including a pretty impressive Medieval festival!) and visiting Florence and Lucca. In short, La Rocca is a wonderful place to stay and we wouldn't hestitate to recommend it to anyone who wants to visit Northern Tuscany.

The property was exactly as represented on the website & served as a lovely quiet & relaxing home for a week. We particularly liked the outside space, large garden well equipped with tables / chairs / loungers. The whole family was able to get together for meals outside in the sun or shade, equally everyone could find a quiet place if privacy was needed. The house, kitchen garden & outbuildings were filled with artefacts - every time you walked into a room you saw something different. Despite arriving late, Nora was excellent in showing us around the property & the wine and provisions were a lovely touch. Just over 1 hour from Pisa & approx 2 hours from Florence, this mountainous retreat was just what we were looking for. Highly recommend to family & friends.

The photos on the Internet do not do this place justice; it is fabulous. It is also massive: 3 double bedrooms, one with twin beds, upstairs bathroom with shower rather than a bath, decent size kitchen with everything you need, and a large lounge with two sofas and a rocking chair, and a ground floor toilet with a very small bath. Minor gripe #1: the mattress in the master bedroom was very hard and lumpy - I think this has been mentioned in an earlier review too - it really needs replacing with one that has some springs! Watch out in the bathroom: we were greeted by a scorpion in the shower one morning! The grounds are amazing and huge. The pool provided welcomed me relief from the 30 degree heat. Plenty of shady spots too. We used the BBQ and the wood fired pizza oven. The oven took about 2 hours to get up to temperature and consumed a lot of wood to make 4 pizzas, but was well worth the effort, they were delicious. The area is renowned for its honey, so as you might expect there were lots and lots of bees. In the garden they were mostly active just after sundown when they appear from the grass, so beware, always wear shoes in the garden in the evening! The village is pretty remote, but there is a bar if you need that sort of thing. There are a couple of mini markets, one or two restaurants and an ATM. Minor gripe #2: the dogs in a neighbouring house which barked incessantly at night - couldn't tell which house they were in, but every house seemed to have at least one dog, with some having several kept in large cages in their gardens. Now I'm no dog-hater, and I realise that the villa owner can't do much about the neighbours' dogs, but if you are a light sleeper, like me, I suggest you invest in some good ear plugs or maybe be just drink more wine in the evening! The roads leading up to the village are very narrow and twisty, as you'd expect for mountain roads leading up to a relatively small village. Italian drivers are mad! They drive in the middle of the road and overtake on blind corners. They also tailgate and use their mobile phones. All in all a rather stressful driving experience, but we are all home in one piece. During our 10 days, we visited Pisa, got a train from Lucca to Florence (less stressful than driving), walked around Lucca, and visited a winery near Montecarlo, but most of the time was spent lounging around the villa, reading. Lots of mountain running to be had too if you like that sort of thing! A really relaxing holiday.

Beautiful villa with a really nice garden in a peaceful surrounding.

The house was actually better than we expected. There was enough space for a company of five adults and the garden was really beautiful. Everything was very clean and tidy. Even Wi-Fi worked properly. A local lady, Nora, gave us the keys and she was kind enough to give us a lot of information about things to do and where to go in the area. We visited Barga, Lucca, Pisa and Florence. There was a wind cave, Grotta del Vento, which was really worth a visit and you should not miss the Ponte della Maddalena in Borgo a Mozzano. A car is a must since the villa is on top of a mountain and the big supermarkets are down in the valley. There are a couple of small shops in the village but their selection is not very wide. We had a very nice dinner in L' Arcile by the church. The food was good and the service was excellent. We can sincerely recommend La Rocca for a nice and relaxing holiday. The only thing we were missing was one more week to experience even more of the beautiful Tuscany.
