La Stalla – Stylish 3 Bedroom Farmhouse Apartment with Pool in Garfagnana, Northern Tuscany
La Stalla – Stylish farmhouse with Infinity Pool in Garfagnana, Northern Tuscany
The house itself combines rustic structure with stylish, modern interiors. The large open plan living space feels light and contemporary, while retaining the character of the original barn. There are three bedrooms and three bathrooms, making it ideal for families or small groups who want comfort as well as atmosphere. The kitchen is fully equipped with dishwasher, oven and fridge freezer, and there is also a washing machine, making longer stays practical and easy.
Outside, the setting is exceptional. The large shared 12 x 6 metre panoramic pool looks directly towards the mountains, with unforgettable sunsets across the valley. The terrace provides plenty of space for outdoor dining and relaxing, and there is both a BBQ and a wood fired pizza oven, perfect for long, informal evenings with family and friends.
La Stalla is particularly well suited to families. Children have access to an adventure playground, a flying fox, table tennis and table football, meaning there is plenty to keep them entertained without leaving the property. Parents can relax by the pool or enjoy the views while the children play safely nearby.
Being part of a genuine working farm adds another layer to the experience. Guests can meet the animals and buy local farm products including cheese, salami, ham, marmalade, chestnut flour, farro and preserves. This is real rural Tuscany, not a staged agriturismo but everyday life in the mountains.
For active guests, Garfagnana is widely considered the best area of Tuscany for walking. Clearly marked trails lead through forests and up onto dramatic ridgelines. Electric mountain bike hire can be arranged, and we can help organise guided walking, mountain biking, horse riding, gorge walking and cooking classes locally. The area offers fresh mountain air, space and a strong sense of place that is increasingly rare elsewhere in Tuscany.
La Stalla suits guests looking for authentic Tuscany, mountain scenery, outdoor adventure and a village setting with character. It offers a very different experience from the classic vineyard landscape, and for many guests that difference is exactly what makes it memorable.

Property Information
La Stalla is located in the medieval hilltop village of Sillico, in the heart of Garfagnana, a spectacular mountain region of Northern Tuscany that many international visitors have yet to discover. Unlike the busier areas of Chianti or Val d’Orcia, Garfagnana offers dramatic landscapes, authentic villages and outstanding outdoor activities without the crowds.
Sillico sits at 700 metres above sea level and enjoys panoramic views across both the Apuan Alps and the Apennine mountains. The village is small, historic and full of character, with stone buildings, tiny piazzas and wonderful sunset views. The centre of the village is just a two minute walk from the farm. There is a bar with an outside terrace providing those all important views, a popular family run restaurant only one minute from the property, and a small local shop for basic supplies. The restaurant is well known locally for its traditional dishes and terrace sunsets. In August, Sillico hosts a well known medieval festival that brings the village to life.
Sillico is close to Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, the capital of the Garfagnana valley and the main market town of the area, approximately 15 minutes away. Here you will find a good selection of shops, restaurants, bars and cafés, along with the nearest train station with direct links to Lucca in around 50 minutes. The nearby village of Pieve Fosciana has two supermarkets, cafés, bakers, butchers and an excellent local restaurant.
Other nearby places of interest include Barga, an elegant hill town known for art and music, San Pellegrino in Alpe, one of the highest villages in Tuscany, Corfino and the Corfino Natural Park with excellent walking trails, the fortress at Fortezza delle Verrucole, and Piazza al Serchio.
Driving distances are approximately 50 minutes to Lucca, 1.5 hours to Pisa, 2 hours to Florence and around 2 hours to the Cinque Terre. Detailed directions, local information and personal recommendations are provided before arrival. The route from Lucca is straightforward via Castelnuovo and Pieve Fosciana up to Sillico.
Garfagnana is widely regarded as the best area of Tuscany for walking. Clearly marked hiking routes lead through chestnut forests and onto dramatic ridgelines.
