If you’re visiting Tuscany in spring 2025 and looking for a fun, authentic local experience, don’t miss the annual Tasting Walk (Passeggiata Degustativa) in Castiglione di Garfagnana on Sunday, 25 May 2025.
This much-loved Tuscan food festival combines local cuisine, wine, music, and the warm atmosphere of one of the region’s most beautiful medieval villages.
09:30 to 10:30
An interesting lesson on edible herbs will take place, accompanied by an educational walk through the surrounding area. Led by ethnobotanist Ivo Poli, this walk explores the many edible wild plants traditionally used in local cooking (please note this will be in Italian).
From 12:00:
The self guided tasting walk begins! Stroll through the village and sample typical dishes prepared by village associations from the surrounding hamlets. Along the way you’ll stop at different food stands, featuring a different course of traditional Garfagnana cuisine:
- Crostini and Salumi – Campori, Isola, Valbona
- Minestrone di Farro – Cerageto
- Porchetta – Chiozza
- Tarts and Biscuits – Pian di Cerreto, Mozzanella
- Coffee and Bitters – Casone di Profecchia
Tasting tickets – Taking part in the food trail is entirely optional—you can still enjoy the atmosphere, music, and market without a ticket.
Reduced: €15 (for children under 12)
Full: €25
Afternoon Wine Tasting and Music
Later in the day, you can also sample local wines made in and around Castiglione. There will be a popular jury voting on the best local wines. It all finishes off in the main square offering sandwiches and drinks.
Live music by the Garfunk Street Band will accompany the event.
