Enjoy private pool, spacious rooms, stunning rose covered outdoor dining area. This is a perfect opportunity to experience a summer holiday in one of the loveliest medieval walled villages in Tuscany. 5 minute walk from the village of Castiglione with cafes, restaurants and village shops. There is a view of the ancient Castle and bell tower from the shaded garden.

The property is the ground floor of a large house, within a shaded garden which has a 9 metre private pool for the sole use of the guests. Entered through a wide hallway, there are 2 large bedrooms, one of which sleeps 3, and a large living room off the hall. The kitchen is well equipped and the owner gives his guests produce from his land. The bathroom is tiled with a walk in shower.

The garden has mature plants and is shaded by fine trees. There is a 9 m private swimming pool with a depth of 1.4 m and steps.

The owner lives discreetly in the apartment upstairs. His hospitality is excellent. He makes his own wine and fine preserves, oil and cheeses which he gives to his guests.

High up in the hills right next to the mediaeval fortified village of Castiglione, this place is a delight. Owner Massimo's generosity knows no bounds - he supplied us with more superb produce than we could eat, including an endless supply of fresh funghi porcini, bottles of his excellent red wine, home made salami and vegetables. The pool and garden were perfect, it was calm and peaceful and we had plenty of space. This is the house where Massimo was born and he & his charming wife still live upstairs - on hand to help whenever necesssary. And it feels like a home, a lived-in, welcoming space with lovely old furniture and a workable kitchen. Lucca - a favourite haunt - is less than a hour's drive away with many other stunning towns and magnificent villas, parks and gardens nearby. It's sad that a couple of apartment blocks have been built on two sides of the garden effectively blocking the view over the village but a short stroll into the front garden reveals the castle and the old walls. Highly recommended for a stay in a relatively unknown but beautiful part of Tuscany.

This was our first visit to Tuscany and and it won't be our last. The house was clean, comfortable, spacious and well equipped. The garden was exceptional in terms of size, privacy and beauty. The position of the house in relation to the village was a lovely two minute stroll. The village itself was located in the midst of wonderful countryside and the small handful of shops / bars were friendly and we'll stocked. Massimo was amazingly, kind, welcoming, thoughtful and generous . Not only did he leave prosecco wine, and groceries, but treated us to a couple of memorable evenings in his Cantina. There, we sampled his own produce and wine. Although he doesn't make his wine commercially, he takes a professional approach to its production. As a result the quality was better than the stuff we buy in the UK. He really did go the extra mile to ensure we enjoyed our stay. Thank you to Massimo and Friends of Tuscany for ensuring a memorable holiday.

We had a lovely time staying here. The house was clean and had everything we needed. The house and garden were much larger than we thought from the photos, brilliant! Our three children really enjoyed playing in the pool and in the gardens which are pretty and well kept. Castiglione is very quaint and lovely to wander around, we enjoyed walking out after dinner to have a gelato and enjoy the mountain views. This is a beautiful part of Tuscany, we had successful trips to Barga and Lucca, easy to drive to and easy to park. Massimo was an amazing, friendly host we really enjoyed the welcome from him on our arrival, delightful Prosecco and Red wine and gelato for the children! Thank you so much.

We (4 adults, 1 child) had two wonderful weeks in this House in Castiglione di Garfagnana. Massimo and his sister were great hosts with lots of wine (and ice for the toddler), we felt like members of the family. For cyclists: visit the passo degli radici! The house provides everything you need for your holidays.

This is a spacious, comfortable, modern house set among a few other modern buildings. Just up the hill are beautiful walks in nature; just down the hill is the fine old town. Il Castello and Da Mara are good places to have dinner. [The latter is the smallest restaurant I’ve ever seen!] The scenery all around is gorgeous. Massimo left us lots of good wine and food in the kitchen and invited us for drinks with his friends in his cantina twice - that was lots of fun.

The walled village is beautiful, Massimo the host is lovely, very generous and keen to ensure you have sampled his wine and prosecco at every opportunity. The villa as pool are excellent and in easy walking of the bars etc. The are is very different to that most expect of Tuscany as it is very mountainous and alpine. There are numerous hill top villages to visit and one can venture into Pisa, Lucca and even Florence easily - the latter is better by train from Lucca. Then return to Garfagnana where everything is about half the price than the more touristy areas. Again, Massimo couldn't have been more helpful and friendly and even allowed us to use the log fired Pizza oven - something that once used you will never buy one !! Don't bother going to the beach at Massa.

Many thanks to Massimo for a great holiday, everyone was so welcoming and friendly. From the property the views are outstanding across the village and the mountain tops. We enjoyed the privacy of the garden for a few hours chill time but we also enjoyed our walks out from all directions from the house! We took a few taxi rides out to larger towns which was perfect to see a little more of the surrounding area and try different restaurants. Lovely holiday hope to go back soon.

Ideal base for two couples to share. Comfortable and relaxing house. Good pool and surroundings. An exceptionally generous welcoming host in Massimo. This is a good base to explore a hidden gem of Italy. The instructions advised there being no need to go much further afield than 10 kms around. This is helpful for a relaxing holiday as the village is a nice place to wander around with cafe overlooking the surrounding countryside, there are are beautiful spectacular walks around in the mountains, particularly in the nearby national park, and good cafes and restaurants in the local area. To get to the big towns is quite a hike on winding roads which are not much fun unless you have a little sports car. There is a good reason the locals all drive little Fiats.

Castiglioni di Garfagnana is a beautiful Tuscon village set in the most amazing country side with stunning views in all directions. Cassa Massimo is a great base to explore the area or lounge by the pool relaxing. The accommodation is fantastic for couples of small families. Without doubt the owner Massimo is one of the nicest, genuine, hospitable people I have ever met. He made us fell so welcome from the moment we arrived. He showed huge generosity with his own produced wine and we enjoyed a couple of evenings with him in his canteena drinking and eating his own produced cured meets and cheeses. The local town is a 2 minute walk and has 2 bars, a green grocer, mini market and restaurant. We tried them all and were all fantastic. You ca walk down to the mini market in the morning to collect fresh bread and take a coffee and relax in the sunshine. Absolutely perfect. I cannot recommend Cassa Massimo highly enough. This was the best holiday we have had and have already booked to return next year. Thank you Massimo, it was an great pleasure to meet you and we look forward to returning next year.

Spacious, quite and clean appartment with very friendly and helpfull owner Massimo. On the day we arrived the fridge was filled with some basic breakfast stuff, some beers and 2 bottles of wine (produced by Massimo himself) to get a good start. The appartment and garden is spacious and pool is perfect, large and very clean as Massimo cleans it every morning. We enjoyed the great hospitality of the owner as well on Sunday when he (and his friend) joined us for a Prosecco to selebrate the start of our holiday. Very friendly and generous. Only remark on the location is that you need to drive 40 minutes to Lucca to get to the highway when you want to do some sightseeing to e.g. Florence, Lucca and Pisa (and other cities). No other remarks and we will definitely come back again.

We had a great week in Massimo's house! The place is very clean, big and well equipped, the garden and pool are beautiful and the surroundings are stunning. The house is a 2 minute walk from a cosy little town with a restaurant, a bar and a merchant - everything you need really. And there's a supermarket close by. If you need anything else, Lucca is just a 45 minute drive away from the house. Massimo and his family are the best hosts ever and made us feel at home. They brought us homemade wine and were very helpful. It is also a great place for children as there are places with shadow in the garden and a nice playground around the corner. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone and would love tom come back :-)

Our first impressions of the property where its spaciousness, cleanliness and of course the spectacular location. We had spent some considerable time searching for a property that would be nestled in a village so that we could walk to a bar and to restaurants; no easy matter. Casa Massimo was perfect for our requirements. We found it easy to drive to and to park in Lucca, a wonderful city, and also drove to the fine beach at Viareggio. For Florence, we drove to Prato and took the train in from there. As mentioned the locality around Castiglone is fantastic and we made the most of the area. Reviewers highlight the hospitality of Massimo, Remo and others. We totally agree. Massimo really does want visitors to enjoy themselves and in our case was so generous with his prosecco! Be assured he and his family are in no way intrusive and they keep as low or as high a profile as you want. So, we had a wonderful time and expect that others would too. My Response Delighted that you enjoyed Casa Massimo and the area so much and thank you for your glowing review! The people in the Garfagnana area of Tuscany are very proud of their reputation for top notch hospitality and Massimo is no exception. Thanks too for the description of your visits. It is very useful and provides a good summary of the various beautiful and accessible locations.

This villa offers fantastic value for money with every ameniety you could wish for. It is located about 3-5 min walk from Castiglione which is a very Tuscan village with a small shop, two bars and a restaurant. The villa is situated perfectly for exploring the region with Lucca less than 40 mins drive and Florence about 1.5 hrs drive. The pool and grounds are very clean and spacious with the pool cleaned at least twice a week and there is a barbecue for evenings in. It has to be said that the owner Massimo makes the holiday. His generosity and friendliness was overwhelming. He couldn't do enough for us. He took out for the day, introduced to us to his friends and family. A brilliant host!!! This place offers a couple or a small family a perfect Tuscan retreat with the added bonus of Italy's heart within an hours drive. This is a great value house, in a great location only a few hundred yards from the Castiglione village centre. We spent much of our time round our pool or at the local cafe......in no time you get to know the friendly locals and you feel part of village life. Although we had never heard of Garfagnana before, the area is the most beautiful place we have ever been to. Absolutely stunning scenery. It's a great place for walking of all grades. The agency helped us arrange outdoor activities and gave us great local information and recommendations. We ate often in the village restaurants, fantastic, huge pizzas for only 5 euro! But the most memorable thing about our holiday, and the reason we will return soon, is the hospitality of the owner himself. Massimo makes his own wine, and he was very generous with it. He also makes his own cheese and salami, and we sampled so much of the great preserves which Tuscany is famous for.......a real "Slow Food" experience, and one of our best ever holidays. Highly recommended for people who enjoy food, wine, walking, sightseeing and relaxing.

Castelnuovo, the nearby market town, has many restaurants, cafes, bars, supermarkets and all other types of shops. There is a tourist information office, train station and a weekly market selling a wide variety of fashion, household goods, flowers, fruit and vegetables.
