Cigiano di Sotto, is 2 three bedroom apartments, within a large farmhouse, rented exclusively together on a traditional Tuscan farm. The farm is on the edge of the medieval walled village of Castiglione which was recently voted as one of the loveliest villages in Italy, Castiglione has 3 restaurants, 3 cafes and small shops.
In each of the roomy apartments there are 2 double bedrooms and 1 twin bedroom. The apartments also have roomy lounge / dining / kitchen areas, fully equipped with modern utilities, and a modern bathroom in each. There is also a lovely shaded outdoor dining space with lovely views of the mountains.
There is also an office room, with internet access.
There is a large courtyard, good for eating outside with BBQ. The pool is a large 14 metres by 5 metres with a large sun terrace and fantastic views of the spectacular Apuane Mountains.
The location is quiet and peaceful with the benefit of village facilities within a short walk.
We can help arrange mountain biking, hill walking, horse riding, gorge walking, art classes and cooking classes which are all available locally.
Guests have access to the land on the farm, outdoor dining area and large pool area. There is a recreational room with computer that the guests can use.
The owner Sergio and his family live and work on the farm.

Booked to spend a quiet New Year with 10 friends, the place is lovely. There are the owners in the house next door who are always ready to help their guests. Molly is a host that responds quickly and has shown to be able to handle the small inconvenience that occurred. I will return to try the Garfagnana with the summer!

Die Ferienwohnung ist fantastisch gelegen. Toller Blick in das Tal von Balkon und Pool aus. Die vorbeiführende Straße stört nicht. Die Ausstattung der Wohnung ist sehr gut und alles war sehr sauber. Das Dorf mit sehr guten und netten kleinen Lädchen (Gemüse, Brot, Wein ...) ist in < 10 min fußläufig zu erreichen. Die Umgebung bietet viele Möglichkeiten. Für Kinder gibt es rund um die Ferienwohnung genügend Platz und durch den Bauernhof einiges zu erkunden. Die Besitzer des kleinen Bauernhofs sind sehr nett (Verständigung auf italienisch). Fliegen und Bremsen sind natürlich da, aber bei unserem Aufenthalt völlig ok - dafür keine Wespe gesehen. Wir würden jederzeit wieder dort Urlaub machen.

I just got back from a week in this farmhouse and had a brilliant time. I stayed there with family to celebrate a birthday and there were 15 of us in total. The views are absolutely amazing and photos don't do it justice, literally breath-taking. The fact that you are within walking distant of the village is a great bonus and we went in every afternoon for our daily ice cream, delicious. There's also a small playground in the village which is shaded and secure so great for the kids. The pool at the house is a great size and many happy hours were spent splashing around. There's adequate outdoor seating and a barbeque which is great in the warm evenings. Also the shutters on the windows were fantastic if you wanted a lie in. The apartments had everything you would need, washing machine, dishwasher, coffee maker etc. The owners live next door but it still felt very private and they left us alone. The have no English but were extremely friendly and went out of their way to help us when necessary. There's a great drive you can do from here (takes around 1.5 hours) that goes through San Pellegrino where the views are outstanding. There's a restaurant right across the road which does lovely takeaway pizzas. I would highly recommend this farmhouse and this region of Tuscany and can't wait to go back.

Things to visit and see in Castiglione di Garfagnana are the walls, the medieval castle is still intact and the two churches of San Michele and San Pietro.
There are 3 bars, all of which serve food, and two restaurants in the village. One of the bars is also a well stocked grocery store and there is also an excellent green grocers. The village is lively throughout the summer with many local food festivals. There is a market every Saturday morning. The surrounding scenery is among the best in the area, with panoramic views of the Apuan mountains.
The large market town of Castelnuovo is only 10 minutes drive away, here you will find many shops, restaurants, bar/cafes and the nearest train station that links with Lucca (50 minutes). The nearest supermarkets are in Pieve Fosciana which is 3km from Castiglione. Other nearby places of interest are San Pelegrino, Corfino, Silico, Barga, the fortress at Verucole and Piazza al Sercchio.
The area is known for its spectacular walking routes. There are many different options of outdoor activities in the area. There is a lovely waterfall nearby where it is possible to swim.
