Podere La Rota - Delightful 1 bedroom apartment in olive grove, lovely views

A splendid cottage for two happily located between Florence, Siena & Arezzo and just 10 minutes walk to the village of Moncioni.

Attention has been paid to every detail of this pretty cottage: from the comfortable furnishings in authentic Tuscan style to the superbly well equipped kitchen and newly updated bathroom. The owners have tried to think of everything by providing useful things like a sewing kit, sun bathing towels, a range of CDs and DVDs, a bookcase with maps, books and guides and a lavish welcome snack (assorted cold meats, mozzarella and vegetable salads, nibbles, chocolates and a complementary bottle of spumante) and breakfast pack (croissants, bread, butter and jam, tea, coffee, fresh milk and fruit juice) to ensure you start your holiday in style.

Your own private terrace is equipped with sun loungers, huge shady umbrella and a table for candle-lit dining under the Tuscan stars. Podere La Rota’s two cats will no doubt drop by to check up on what you are doing, unlike the owners who are discretion itself – they’re there and a mine of local information if you need them, otherwise you will be left to enjoy your gloriously peaceful surroundings in perfect privacy.

The local village is only a 5-10 minute walk away and there is a little bar/ shop as well as a new restaurant/ pizzeria.

If you want something special in Tuscany, you’ll be delighted with La Rota!

We stayed in Podere in 2009, amazing location, amazing hosts, an amazing Livio, who always stayed with us every time we came back from a trip. Happy Days

This property took our breath away. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we felt at home. The views from the terrace were fantastic and we spent hours watching the evening light turn to sunset and then stars. Our welcome pack was absolutely delicious and extraordinarily generous - we got to try many Tuscan dishes expertly prepared. Bob and Ally were informative and attentive without being at all intrusive; we have stayed in holiday rentals all over the world but this is definitely the best we have ever had!

What a fantastic location! Bob and Allison have certainly created a wonderful retreat from it all and have indeed thought of everything to make staying at Podere La Rota a sheer delight. Arriving to find cool beers and wine in the fridge was just what was required after a hot drive from Firenza and Allison’s beautiful platters kept us going for two days with tasty local Tuscan cuisine. The sounds of wild boar and deer just added to the wonderful sunsets over breath taking scenery as we sat on the balcony each evening. Podere La Rota is ideally situated in the hills above Montevarchi and makes travelling by train or car to Firenza, Siena, Arezzo and further afield a simple journey. The Botega in Moncini is delightful and drinking an early morning or evening coffee on the veranda was a simple delight. This was our third visit to Italy with Summer Leases and it certainly won’t be the last – plans are already forming for next year.

Bob and Ally could not have been more welcoming or thoughtful as hosts: the superb 'welcome pack' of delicious food in the fridge, a tastefully decorated house that offered peace, comfort and spectacular views over an olive grove and a wooded valley, a file of useful information and their attentive suggestions whenever we asked, combined to give us a wonderful holiday. Podere La Rota is an ideal base for exploring Tuscany, with Florence, Siena, Arezzo, Cortona, San Gimignano and the Chianti vineyards all within reach but, in truth, what remains clearest in the memory is the ease and beauty of dining on the terrace in the warmth of the evening, glass in hand. This place is a gem and I would recommend it to anyone in a heartbeat.

We couldn't have asked for more! From the large terrace with its incredible view to the beautifully decorated interior, this cottage was exactly what we'd hoped for. The living spaces were comfortable and cozy, the kitchen well-equipped, and extras such as a washing machine, dishwasher, and internet were also helpful. We were greeted with a welcome pack of food and drinks that was very generous delicious, and appreciated. The location offered quiet countryside tranquility, but also convenience to small towns, the train, and day trip destinations. After our initial greetings and helpful information, Bob and Ally were always available yet gave us complete privacy unless we sought them out. We highly recommend this property, and would love to stay here again on our next trip to Tuscany.

What an amazing place to stay. Bob & Ally the owners who also live on the property were very welcoming & could not do enough to make our stay in Podere La Rota most memorable. The 7 nights we spent here were the highlight of our one month adventures in Italy. From the amazing platters that were left in the fridge on arrival to the gorgeous view from the veranda where we spent most afternoons it was just wonderful. Our only disappointment was the fact that we traveled a little too early in April with a couple of the Osteria's close to Podere La Rota not opening until after Easter. We will have to come back to try them!!!

This is truly the best weekly rental we've had in decades of similar trips. I'm not sure the pictures do justice to the privacy and peace waiting for you here. The hosts are perfectionists, and we the renters are the beneficiaries. So here are some words that come to mind: comfort, cleanliness, light, helpful advice, accessibility to Tuscany's best. We feel fortunate to have been at La Rota.

Would definitely return

We had looked forward to this trip since finding this gem of a place on the internet. Looking at the images it was perfect for what we wanted: a quiet "get-away-from-it-all" place with little or no distractions! We couldn't have asked for more! The driving directions (from Switzerland) were spot on, and arriving slightly later than anticipated was of no concern for the owners. We were made to feel immediately welcome and were able to relax (collapse?) in tranquil peace and quiet! Our week was spent eating, drinking, sitting in the sun and trying not to attract too many bitey beasties. In a place like this, however, it is difficult to care about such little annoyances! Even the (one) thunderstorm was an amazing spectacle! The immediate surrounding area is beautiful, and there's Sienna and Florence within easy driving distance. As for the accommodation, again we could not have asked for much more. It was a fabulous size for the two of us, and we definitely took advantage of having the place to ourselves: tidying up and packing the day before we (reluctantly) left was a bit of a chore and took longer due to our laziness throughout the week!!! All living areas, including the bedroom and the bathroom, were very well maintained, equipped and furnished. The well stocked kitchen was again simply ideal for our needs. All in all, this was a spectacular find and well worth the wait and the lengthy drive. Would we return to the area? Sure! Would we return to the same accommodation (this one)? Why not? When you find somewhere this good, why would you look anywhere else?

You always take a chance coming back to somewhere you have been before, especially when we loved our first visit to Podere La Rota so much. However, our second stay here was even better than before and we can't wait to come back again! Unlike last time, we spent almost the entire week on the terrace, enjoying the view and the wine! Whether you want to do the same or to tour the surrounding countryside, or take a day trip to Florence or even Rome, Podere La Rota is the perfect destination for a Tuscan holiday and we cant recommend it highly enough. Grazie de tutto! Love, Angie and Ryan.

I had a lovely stay at Podere la Rota. The cottage was excellent, and in my view certainly much better value for money than what one would typically get in the UK. It is private, fully kitted and large, considering it caters for two. If a quiet Tuscan holiday, away from the tourist masses, is what you are after, this is it! The cottage is on a small olive farm high up in the Tuscan hills, in the wine producing region of Chianti. Still, it is easy to make daytrips to Siena, Florence, and the Tuscan hilltop towns. The hosts are great and very friendly and know the area very well, including some good restaurants in the vicinity. The welcome hamper in the fridge on arrival is delicious, and certainly gets one off to a good start! I would definitely highly recommend Podere la Rota to anyone.
