Podere Montepulciano - Restored farmhouse near Montepulciano with private pool

Perched on a hill and nestled between woods, olive groves and a splendid countryside, Podere Monti is only 500 metres (roughly a third of a mile) from Sant Albino di Montepulciano in the heart of southern Tuscany. It’s an excellent location from which to explore all of central Italy.

The village of Montepulciano is only 5KM away.

Perugia, Assisi, Siena, Cortona, Orvieto, Arezzo, San Gimignano – all are only an hour away by car. Even Florence and Rome can be easily reached from here by car or train.

Podere Montepulciano offers a magnificent view of the vineyards and olive groves of Montepulciano. The historic farmhouse has been beautifully restored by the owners, who have furnished it with traditional antiques and every possible comfort. It provides lodging for at least 14 persons in 7 guest rooms.

The living quarters are on two floors and there’s plenty of room, both indoors and out, for guests to take advantage of Tuscany in all seasons.

There are two superior suites of 60 sq metres (645 sq feet), two junior suites of 35 sq metres (375 sq feet), and three double rooms of 30 sq metres (325 sq feet). All rooms and suites have their own private bathroom and are furnished with superior, king-size beds.

A bright, modern kitchen opens through an archway into an equally bright and attractive dining room.

Just off the the dining room there’s a pergola that beckons guests outdoors to savour nature and the open air.

The farmhouse also has a cosy library with a fireplace on the upper floor, a second sitting room in which to relax, and a fully equipped laundry room.

A cook is available to prepare sumptuous meals for guests and the wine cellar contains a selection of the finest wines of Montepulciano.

Podere Montepulciano’s large garden with its olive and cypress trees, flowering shrubs, and aromatic herbs is in perfect harmony with its surroundings, the Cappuccini Mountains.

Guests can enjoy this marvellous garden while eating outside under the pergola of wisteria vines, taking the sun by the pool (equipped with hydromassage jets) or simply stretched out on the soft grass that surrounds the entire farmhouse.

The house is located on a farming estate that has its own natural pond and produces olive oil and grains. This provides Podere Monti’s guests with the unique opportunity to observe the workings of a traditional Tuscan farm right at their doorstep.

The region is typical of Tuscany with medieval villages, cypress trees, olive groves and country roads that are an invitation to explore. It’s an ideal location for a wide variety of outdoor activities but also for discovering and enjoying the excellent food and wines of the area.

On request, a cook will prepare you with gourmet food, from breakfasts to traditional Tuscan dinners.

Breakfast is served in the bright, attractive dining room with its original Roman stone floor, discovered during the restoration of the farmhouse.

There’s freshly squeezed orange juice, homemade apple juice, a selection of the best local honey, fresh sheep’s milk ricotta from Pienza served with different flavoured honeys, and wonderful, homemade preserves of local plums, blackberries and figs, all prepared without sugar. The bread is homemade using the finest whole grain flours and a long, slow leavening process. There’s a delightful choice of teas and a selection of the finest quality coffees. Homemade tarts and cakes round out this healthy and delicious breakfast.

Should you wish to have other meals prepared for you, our Italian-French chef, Maurizio, offers a range of dishes from traditional Tuscan cuisine to new and innovative approaches to gastronomic interpretation.

This is a great way to be introduced to the flavours of the region with food that is prepared from the finest quality, organic ingredients.

Your menu might include:

Appetizers: Toasted bread with olive oil and small Tuscan beans, crostini with chicken livers, crostoni with lardo and chestnut honey, ricotta cheese from Pienza wrapped in savoy cabbage leaves, or individual leek and bacon moulds.

First Course: “La pappa al pomodoro” (a passato of tomatoes), “Il bordatino” (a delicate, chickpea soup), “pici” (Tuscan spaghetti) with duck sauce, or tortelli filled with pecorino cheese and served with yellow pepper sauce.

Second Course: Roast pork in a bread crust, lamb with black olives, or beef cooked in Vino Nobile di Montepulciano.

Dessert: Tiramisu, marscapone mousse with mint served over strawberries, ricotta mousse with plum compote, or ricotta souffle with peach sauce.

Cooking Classes

Our cooking classes cover a broad spectrum of traditional Tuscan and Italian cooking while incorporating elements of French cuisine. Classes are offered to beginners and experienced cooks alike, and combine a theoretical with a practical approach. Under the supervision of our Chef, participants will prepare traditional Tuscan dishes and learn how to pair them with the right wines.

Cooking classes take place in the well-equipped, modern kitchen of the farmhouse. The classes can be designed for individuals or groups, and can be conducted in Italian, English or French as required. We request that our guests give us a few days notice for cooking classes.

The Wine Cellar

Podere Montepulciano offers guests an impressive selection of the fine wines of Montepulciano. The owners are well acquainted with the wine growers of the region and their wine cellar comprises the very best of the local production.

Guests have the opportunity to savour these fine wines, most of them from relatively small producers, while sitting in the garden or under the wisteria arbour.

Wedding Ceremonies

Combining chef Maurizio’s culinary expertise with the exquisite taste of the “padrona di casa”, we can make your wedding ceremonies truly memorable at Podere Monti.

Beginning with appetizers and champagne by the pool, the celebration then moves to beautifully prepared tables, either in the garden or in one of the dining rooms inside the farmhouse, where a sumptuous meal is served, accompanied by just the right wines for each dish and the music of your choice to complete the atmosphere.

We bring together all the elements to make this most important day a unique and beautiful occasion.

Podere Montepulciano is the perfect location for small conferences or meetings. We can provide a large meeting room complete with audiovisual and any other equipment required.

Podere Montepulciano is only 5 minutes away from Montepulciano, an ancient and atmospheric town as all the guide books will tell you. You'll find lots of eateries there, fantastical old cellars where you can taste the local's world class wines, you can admire some very fine architecture and browse in a host of interesting craft shops. Nearby you'll come to Montepulciano Terme. The spa offers a huge selection of "wellness treatments" - massages of every type, facials, body treatments and, given that it's a thermal spa, you can indulge in their thermal treatments too.

The modest restaurant Tre Stelle serves some of the best, authentically Tuscan food in the area! If you don't want to eat out and lack the urge to prepare a meal, ask Silvia to call in the cook. You can eat local specialities on your own terrace in the candle-lit cool of the evening. And if you'd like a cookery lesson, well Silvia can arrange that too. In short, you don't need to travel far if you are thinking of a little luxurious indulgence. If holiday exercise is high on your list of priorities, then visit the villa at harvest time and join in the fun of grape picking. Outside the vendemmia season, you can hire bikes, pack up a picnic and explore the local lanes, admiring in the flora and fauna of this lovely landscape. If you want to sightsee, you'll find yourself well located for exploring both Tuscany and Umbria. Chiusi is a short drive away, with its museum of fascinating Etruscan finds, while Orvieto, Siena, Florence and Arezzo are all within easy reach.
