Set within a traditional Tuscan farmhouse on a working farm, the property is just a short walk from the medieval walled village of Castiglione di Garfagnana, making it ideal for guests who want a peaceful countryside stay without being isolated.

The farmhouse is divided into two three-bedroom apartments, sleeping up to 12 guests in total. Each apartment is simple, roomy, and well laid out, with two double bedrooms and one twin bedroom, a modern bathroom, and an open-plan living, dining, and kitchen area. The kitchens are fully equipped for self-catering and suited to families or groups looking for a comfortable base in rural Tuscany.

Outside, there is a large shared courtyard with a barbecue and plenty of space for outdoor meals. A shaded dining area looks out towards the surrounding mountains. The private swimming pool measures 14 x 5 metres and has a wide sun terrace with open views across the Apuan Alps. The pool is located approximately 30 metres from the apartments, to the side of the main farmhouse rather than directly next to them.

Despite the quiet rural setting, Castiglione di Garfagnana is within easy walking distance. The village has restaurants, cafés, small shops, a weekly market, and regular summer food festivals, making it one of the most attractive and lively villages in the area. It has been recognised as one of the most beautiful villages in Italy and retains its intact medieval walls and castle.

Guests have access to the farm land surrounding the property, the pool area, and the shared outdoor spaces. The owner, Sergio, and his family live and work on the farm discreetly and his neice who speaks English is on hand if needed by the guests.

Property Information

Castiglione di Garfagnana is a medieval walled town and comune of 1,878 inhabitants in the province of Lucca.

Things to visit and see in Castiglione di Garfagnana are the walls, the medieval castle is still intact and the two churches of San Michele and San Pietro.

There are 3 bars, all of which serve food, and two restaurants in the village. One of the bars is also a well stocked grocery store and there is also an excellent green grocers. The village is lively throughout the summer with many local food festivals. There is a market every Saturday morning. The surrounding scenery is among the best in the area, with panoramic views of the Apuan mountains.

The large market town of Castelnuovo is only 10 minutes drive away, here you will find many shops, restaurants, bar/cafes and the nearest train station that links with Lucca (50 minutes). The nearest supermarkets are in Pieve Fosciana which is 3km from Castiglione. Other nearby places of interest are San Pelegrino, Corfino, Silico, Barga, the fortress at Verucole and Piazza al Sercchio.

The area is known for its spectacular walking routes. There are many different options of outdoor activities in the area. There is a lovely waterfall nearby where it is possible to swim.

Payment Policies

A partial payment in the amount of 25% of the grand total is due no later than 2 day(s) after confirmation of intention to book or upon booking if that date has already passed. Remaining payment is due no later than 56 days prior to arrival.
In the event that you wish to cancel or amend your Booking, the lead name on the Booking is required to advise us in writing by email to info@friendsoftuscany.com and the effective date of any cancellation or amendment shall be the date that written notification is received by us. The cancellation charge will be the full deposit if you cancel before 56 days from the departure date. The following cancellation charges will also apply. Cancellation less than 56 days before departure 100% of the amount paid is chargeable. We will endeavour to re-book any cancelled booking and if successful will only charge you an administration fee of £50. If the villa is re-booked at a lower price then you will be refunded the difference.

All trash and perishables must be disposed of and dishes washed before departure.
Final cleaning included in the price quoted.
Towels, bed linen and pool towels provided.
Logs for open fire (if applicable) provided.
Pool open from the last week in May to October- can be negotiated.
Central heating may be charged as extra for for colder periods - please enquire.
A damages deposit may be requested by the owner. You will be informed if this is the case.
Please send photographs of your passports to the owner prior to your arrival, as these must be registered at the local council office. The owners, number is in the information sheet.
