Property Information
Barga – One of Italy’s Most Beautiful Hilltop Towns
Villa Alventura sits just 1.5 km from Barga, officially listed among “I Borghi più belli d’Italia” – the most beautiful villages in Italy.
Barga is a vibrant and cultured hilltop town encircled by ancient fortress walls. Its historic centre is a maze of cobbled streets, artisan shops and panoramic viewpoints stretching across the Serchio Valley and towards the Apuan Alps. Unlike many Tuscan towns, Barga is lively year-round, with a strong local community rather than seasonal tourism.
The town offers an excellent selection of restaurants, cafés, ice cream shops, bakers, butchers, florists and weekly food markets. There is also a monthly antiques market and a packed calendar of cultural events.
Summer in Barga is particularly special. Outdoor concerts and festivals fill the piazzas, including the Piazzetta music festival in June, opera performances in July and the well-known Barga Jazz Festival in August. These are genuine cultural events that attract Italian visitors from across the region.
Being able to stay in peaceful countryside while having this quality of town life just minutes away is one of Alventura’s strongest advantages.
The Lucca Province – Authentic Northern Tuscany
Barga sits within the Province of Lucca, an area that offers dramatic scenery, cultural heritage and far fewer crowds than southern Tuscany.
Nearby natural highlights include:
Orecchiella Natural Park, renowned for its wildflowers, forests and panoramic walking trails.
Orrido di Botri, a spectacular natural canyon carved into limestone rock.
Grotta del Vento, one of Italy’s largest cave systems.
Ponte della Maddalena, also known as the Devil’s Bridge, a striking medieval bridge spanning the Serchio River.
The surrounding countryside is ideal for walking, mountain biking, climbing, canoeing, horse riding and even skiing in winter. This area offers a far more varied landscape than many expect from Tuscany, combining mountains, river valleys and rolling hills.
Exploring Tuscany’s Cultural Cities
Villa Alventura is exceptionally well positioned for exploring Tuscany’s most important cultural destinations.
